Michael Zorc felt it was "tough-going" for his team in Düsseldorf. With the race for second place in mind, he is now hoping for a home win against Mainz on Wednesday "so that we can take a lead with us to Leipzig". The sporting director also spoke about his lack of comprehension when it comes to the handball rule.

Michael Zorc on the balance of play:
It was hard-going today, certainly not one for the football purists. We struggled to find the right spaces and to create chances for ourselves. It would've been a lot easier if we'd managed to make it 1-0 in the first half when we had two players clean through on the goalkeeper. All things considered, it's obviously fortunate to score a goal in the 94th minute, because Fortuna Düsseldorf had one or two chances too. There were two shots that hit the post. I'll happily take it. We were lacking explosiveness and creativity on the blunt grass today.

...on Raphael Guerreiro's disallowed goal:
What has frustrated me in the last few weeks is that there have been three handball incidents that have in some cases been match deciders. I didn't see a handball, I don't even know who it was by, but I'll happily look at it 20 more times. All three decisions have come at our expense; all in all, I don't think it's comprehensible for me any more.

...on goalscorer Erling Haaland:
It's a blessing to have a player like that on the bench. Erling has an incredible positive energy that he brings to the team. It's good that he's back again and that he can help us out in the final matches.

...on the current table:
Second place has been our stated aim since the defeat against Bayern. It is clear to us that we aren't going to coast to victory in those games. But I hope that we can come away from our next game with an equally successful result so that we can take a lead with us to Leipzig.

...on the tactical set-up:
You can see that the back three/five is a very good fit for us. We opened up slightly towards the end today, which gave Fortuna one or two chances to counter-attack. In the first half they didn't even have a shot at our goal. That's the route we need to continue down.
