A new book released by Borussia Dortmund describes the nutrition principles of the BVB youth department based on a scientific approach and with the use of photos stories, recipes and technical advice columns. It is an easy-going read and particularly aimed at, but by no means limited to, sporty children and their families.

The book has features such as BVB stars Marco Reus and Nuri Sahin meeting with BVB youth players  in the kitchen of the youth centre for a nutritional workshop, as well as German internationals Marcel Schmelzer and Jonas Hofmann helping out the youngsters barbecue in the garden and Stadium announcer Norbert Dickel frying healthy burgers with the Black and Yellow talents.

The book is called “Entscheidend ist auf’m Teller!” (“Diet makes a difference!”) which has just been released by Borussia Dortmund and the Lüner publishing house. It has been available in all BVB fan shops, the Online-Shop and in stores since Tuesday.

In their book, Dortmund journalist and novelist Frank Fligge and ecotrophologist Jola Jaromin-Bowe describe over more than 230 pages, “the BVB method for optimal fitness and maximum energy” – a dieting method that was developed under BVB coaches, parents and footballers themselves with sound scientific support, and has been practiced daily since.

“This book is not only a cookery and recipe book that should make you hungry and make you think more about what you eat and drink on a day-to-day basis,” said BVB youth coordinator Ricken. “It is also an all-in-one book. It proves that at the end of the day, a football club, quite apart from results, success and failures, is one; a strong community, a family!”

Borussia is cooking something up, and this time we aren’t talking about the atmosphere brewing in the south stand. BVB is quite literally cooking, as success can come from the stomach. Renowned experts such as sport and nutritional scientist Professor Dr Ingo Froböse, personal coach and fitness trainer Cliff Opoku-Afari and long-time BVB team doctor Markus Braun explain why young athletes don’t only improve their performance potential with the right diet, but they also greatly reduce their susceptibility to injury.

In the chapter “Borussia Dortmund international” stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Henrikh Mkhitaryan present typical dishes from their home countries and regions that fit the diets of athletes and their families perfectly. Speaking of a food plan, the book contains specific diet plans and more than 70 great energising recipes to try.

The result is a book for families, by families. It is advisory, informative and a cookbook. It is a football book, a story book, a football story book and last but not least a sumptuous photo-book that displays the stars of BVB and the BVB youth from a new perspective.
