Peter Stöger pulled no punches in his assessment of the team's performance. "That was very poor today. You cannot expect situations to develop if you don't put in the work," said the coach at the press conference. But he has not given up. "If you lose a match in the league, there's no chance to repair the damage. But luckily we have a second game. We're by no means out at this point."

Peter Stöger on the balance of play:
At the beginning – the first 10 or 15 minutes – I had the feeling we had a relatively good foothold in the game. But that became less and less the case. We didn't manage to keep the tempo high. Salzburg became braver, believed in themselves more. Only in the closing stages did I – at times – get the feeling we wanted to change the result. All in all, there was quite a lot of purposeless play. We're not satisfied.

...on the reasons for the performance:
In terms of effort and movement – especially in attacking areas – that was very poor today. You can't get the better of a well-organised and dangerous team, for whom the match is perhaps the biggest occasion of the year, playing like that. You cannot expect situations to develop if you don't put in the work. It could be down to the fact the lads have had quite a lot of games recently, that they're not entirely fresh. But that was not satisfactory.

...on the team's attitude:
I didn't have the feeling that anyone approached this game with complacency, and I didn't have the feeling that we didn't fight back, that we weren't willing to go into the tackles. But you need to remain active. We had managed to hold firm at the back. Until shortly before the half-time interval, hardly anything had troubled us. There were perhaps a few too many passes back from the centre. It wasn't good enough against such an opponent.

...on the prospects for the return leg:
Luckily, we have a second game. If you lose a match in the league, there's no chance to repair the damage. Now we're facing a really difficult task, but we're by no means out at this point. We know that we have the quality to get the win in Salzburg. But we will need to produce a different performance if we're to do so.
