"We absolutely wanted to progress. And ultimately, we're through, that's what counts," explained Lucien Favre after the DFB Cup victory over Union Berlin, adding: "It wasn't undeserved." But the Abdou Diallo injury further limits his defensive options.

Lucien Favre on the balance of play:
"It was very difficult to play against this team. They're very well organised, very stable. It was difficult to destabilise this team. Ultimately, we're through, that's what counts. It wasn't undeserved. Unfortunately, we conceded the second equaliser three minutes before the final whistle. Then we had to play the 30 minutes of extra-time. But fortunately, we didn't need to go to penalties."

...on squandered leads against Hertha and Union Berlin:
"That's part of football. We need to improve in that regard. We need to avoid these mistakes in the future. In the cup you need to get through. We absolutely wanted to progress. Two years ago Union took Borussia Dortmund to a shootout. But it's worth remembering we were the ones to score late in the 4-3 win over Augsburg a few weeks ago."

...on Union Berlin:
"The opposition were very solid and compact in defence. They were aggressive and physical in the challenges, in the aerial battles too. It was difficult for us. We need to adapt to playing against teams like that and we need to find better solutions. Sometimes we tried to overcomplicate things. But all in all, it was okay."

...on the injury sustained by Abdou Diallo:
"He got injured early. We don't know exactly what's wrong. He'll probably be unavailable for the upcoming games."
