It's time to get the calculators out. Borussia Dortmund squandered their first opportunity to secure progression three weeks ago after losing 2-0 in Madrid, where a draw would have been enough to wrap up their place in the knockout stages. But Lucien Favre's charges will have the chance to make amends when they play host to reigning Belgian champions Club Bruges on Wednesday evening.

Once again, a draw will be enough to ensure their name is in the hat for the draw on 17 December. However, the battle for top spot will continue with La Liga runners-up Atlético. If BVB are to emulate their achievement of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 and be one of the eight seeded clubs for the draw − meaning they would face a runner-up in the next round and have home advantage in the second leg − they must take at least as many points as Los Rojiblancos from the final two games against Bruges and Monaco. Head-to-head record will determine the group winner if both teams finish level on points – and in that case BVB would prevail thanks to their 4-2 aggregate win.

Borussia Dortmund will prematurely secure top spot...
...if they beat Club Bruges and Atlético Madrid are defeated by AS Monaco in the group's other game.

Borussia Dortmund will book their place in the next round...
...if they do not lose against Club Bruges. Should they avoid defeat, the Belgians could achieve a maximum of eight points and BVB would have 10.

Club Bruges could only reach the knockout stages...
...if they win in Dortmund and BVB also do not win on the final matchday in Monaco, or if Atlético Madrid lose both of their remaining games. (br)
