Talented young defensive player Amos Pieper has left the Borussia Dortmund U23 set-up to join second-tier club DSC Arminia Bielefeld. ''We're confident that he can make the step-up from the regional league to the 2. Bundesliga. We're going to be keeping a close eye on his development and we wish him all the best for the rest of his career,'' stated Ingo Preuß, the U23 sporting director at BVB.

Amos Pieper, who turned 21 just a few days ago, came to BVB as a 12-year-old after starting out at FC Nordkirchen and Union Lüdinghausen. During his time in the club's youth set-up, he won one U17 German title and two U19 German titles. He made 16 Regionalliga appearances for the U23s this season, and also caught the eye of head coach Lucien Favre, who selected the 1.91 metres tall central defender for the club's tour of the USA in the summer of 2018. Pieper was also selected for the first team squad for the 2-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 17 of the Bundesliga season.

''I was able to experience and learn so much. I won't forget that. I'm so grateful that I was able to be involved in such a top-level set-up,'' said the 21-year-old recently when discussing his experience with the first team squad. Now the youngster is taking the next step in his career, progressing from the fourth to the second tier of German football.
