For many years now, when Borussia Dortmund marks its birthday on 19 December, the annual ecumenical service in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Holy Trinity Church) has been an important part of the celebrations. For the club's 111th birthday this year, the pre-recorded service will be shown as a stream.

The current situation does not allow for visitors to attend a service held in the church. Therefore, the BVB birthday service will be held digitally on 19 December. The event will be streamed at 19:09 CET on BVB-TV and Facebook, meaning that every BVB fan will be able to take part from the comfort of their own home.

The mayor of Dortmund, Thomas Westphal, will hold the ceremony. Nobby Dickel and Carsten Cramer will send in digital messages. Karsten Haug (parish priest of the Holy Three Kings Parish) and Carola Theilig (pastor of the Evangelische Lydia-Gemeinde Dortmund, photo) will say a BVB prayer. The music for this year's service will be provided by Jo Marie. As is tradition, the club song will be sung at the end of the ceremony.
