Steffen Tigges scored his first Bundesliga goal on his 09th appearance! The 23-year-old still had a smile etched on to his face long after the final whistle had sounded.

"I came close on Tuesday, but unfortunately it didn't quite happen," he said in reference to the cup tie against Ingolstadt, when his header struck the crossbar. But he did find the back of the net in today's Bundesliga home game against 1. FC Cologne. "As a big striker, I sometimes need to score from corners too," he explained in an interview with pay-TV channel Sky. His goal, scored with his first touch after coming on, rounded off the scoring at 2-0. One final statistical note: it was his fifth shot across his nine Bundesliga matches.

"I'm going to be smiling a little bit more for the next day or two," he said, in reference to the happiness he felt. "I'll try to keep it that way until the preparations for the Champions League begin." (br/tl)
