The Borussia U19s made a statement three weeks before the start of the season with an impressive 5-0 win against the North/Northeast Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

"Leipzig were playing their full squad for the first time. We put in a very mature performance and took another big step forward. The boys are determined to put into practice all the things we work on in training," said head coach Mike Tullberg in praise of his team, who gradually took control of the game after an even opening phase. The Black & Yellows' superiority led to a 2-0 lead at half-time, with Julian Rijkhoff and Ayukayoh Mengot scoring the goals.

BVB continued to dominate at the start of the second half. Michel Ludwig scored from a free-kick to make it 3-0, and after many changes on both sides, newcomer Noa-Gabriel Simic and Ayukayoh Mengot both scored to bring the score to 5-0. "Some of our goals were very well worked," said a delighted Mike Tullberg, who gave extra praise to his tried-and-tested trio of Nnamdi Collins, Vasco Walz and Farouk Cisse: "They're doing a great job and are leading the way for the other players.''

BVB, who will play another friendly match on Wednesday against the South/Southwest Bundesliga side Kickers Offenbach (kick-off 13:00 CET, NLZ Brackel), are still missing Samuel Bamba (set to return to training on Monday) as well as Isaak Nwachukwu, Filippo Mane and Rafael Lubach.

BVB: Kirsch – Husseck, Collins, Blank (77, Rashidi), Korzynietz (46, Mrosek) – Cisse (60, Wätjen), Simic (70, Ubani), Walz (70, Onofrietti), Ludwig, Mengot (77, Quayson), Rijkhoff (75, König)

Borussia's U17s finished fifth at the Bundesliga Cup in Heilbronn. Coach Karsten Gorges' boys were unfortunate to lose their first two group matches against VfB Stuttgart (1-0) and Schalke 04 (2-1), before beating Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 and winning 5-3 in the match for fifth place against FC Augsburg.
