"There's no easy start for us; we have a young, new-look team. There are no easy opponents," said BVB coach André Fuhr of the Women's Handball Bundesliga schedule, which was published on Monday afternoon. The vice-champions' campaign will kick off when they host Union Halle-Neustadt on Saturday 10 September. The first away game will be at SU Neckarsulm a week later.

A crunch clash in Neckarsulm awaits BVB as early as the second matchday. "That'll be our first major challenge. Neckarsulm have strengthened well," explained Fuhr.

A round of fixtures scheduled for Boxing Day, 26 December, will be a new addition to the calendar this year. "You can imagine how the players will celebrate Christmas. And of course it also makes a difference whether you play at home at Christmas or you have a long away journey to Bietigheim," Fuhr said.

Another unusual feature is the early break between 24 October and 20 November due to the European Championship in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro. "Last year, we already had 14 or 15 games in the Bundesliga and Champions League behind us when the international break started. This time it'll only be five games. But we have to take it as it is," Fuhr said calmly.

BVB will play their final game of the 2022/23 campaign at home to Bayer Leverkusen on 27 May.
