The cup match at TSV 1860 Munich is Dortmund's first competitive match of the season. There are plenty of positive facts and figures that make pleasant reading for BVB fans on the way there.

Goals guaranteed: BVB have scored at least one goal in their last 26 cup games on away soil – the longest run in the club's history. The last time we failed to find the net in an away match in the cup dates back to 27 February 2013, when the Black and Yellows were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

Match 6: As BVB head coach, Edin Terzic has won each of his previous five DFB-Pokal games, seeing his side score 15 and concede just 3 goals.

Third place: Borussia Dortmund comfortably beat Leipzig 4-1 in the 2021 final and celebrated their fifth triumph in the competition, having previously lifted the trophy in 1965, 1898, 2012 and 2017. That drew the Black and Yellows level with FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt on five cup wins. Only two teams have won the DFB-Pokal more often: Bayern Munich (20 times) and Werder Bremen (six times).

Ancient history: Borussia Dortmund last experienced a first round exit 17 years ago. On 22 August 2005, the Black and Yellows lost 2-1 away at Eintracht Braunschweig. The most recent defeat against a side from the third tier came on 27 October 2010, when BVB lost on penalties to Offenbach Kickers.

Tradition: This will be the 47th time Borussia Dortmund and 1860 Munich will face off. In the head-to head record, Dortmund have 19 wins and 12 defeats from their 40 Bundesliga games (most recently in 2003/2004). The two sides have faced each other in the DFB-Pokal four times: in 1962/63, BVB won 3-1 in the quarter-finals, and in the following season, the "Lions" won 1-0 at home. In October 1980, Dortmund celebrated another 3-1 home victory, and also made it past 1860 in September 2013 thanks to a 2-0 win after extra-time. The last competitive match between the two clubs was played in front of 71,000 fans in the Allianz Arena. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a penalty after 105 minutes and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added a second two minutes later. The last defeat against TSV 1860 was on 2 February 2001 in the Bundesliga, when a Thomas Häßler penalty was enough to give Munich a 1-0 win at the Olympic Stadium. (br)
