Borussia Dortmund will be without Mateu Morey in the coming months. The defender has undergone surgery on his outer meniscus.

"Unfortunately, he had to undergo an operation on the outer meniscus of his left knee yesterday. It kept reacting, fluid kept forming," explained BVB head coach Edin Terzic. "He will not be available for us over the coming months, that hurts us immensely. He has been very combative over the past 15 months. But he is showing that fighting spirit once again."

The 22-year-old had sustained a serious injury to his right knee without opposition involvement in the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal against Holstein Kiel on 1 May 2021 and battled his way back to the squad via a lengthy rehab. He made his comeback in the friendly against Antalyaspor at the end of July. He then made his first competitive appearance since his injury lay-off for the U23s against RW Essen in August.
