The Borussia Dortmund women's football team are making one statement after another in the Bezirksliga. Coach Thomas Sulewski's charges clearly dominated their clash with Wambeler SV at the Sportanlage an der Sendstraße and deserved their 7-1 margin of victory.

BVB currently sit top of the Bezirksliga table with 21 points – ahead of Germania Lohauserholz (15 points) and VfL Senden (14), who slipped up against Rot Weiss Ahlen and had to settle for a 0-0 draw – and a goal difference of 36-1.

Wambel goalkeeper Jaqueline Meyritz had shots raining down on her goal. By the time referee Lars Evers blew his whistle for half-time, she had already picked the ball out of the back of her net on six occasions. Marie Grothe opened the floodgates when she latched on to a ball from Vanessa Kuhl and slotted home in the ninth minute. The attacker, who has been in outstanding form in recent weeks, later extended the lead to 4-1 and 5-1.

Wambel can at least claim to be the first team to score against the Black & Yellows in the Bezirksliga this season. The home side took advantage of a moment of carelessness in the BVB defensive ranks to level the terms at 1-1 via their second noteworthy attack of the match. "We didn't defend well there," commented Sulewski.

But the Black & Yellows immediately showed a strong reaction: they put the opposition players under pressure quickly – forcing them into possession giveaways in the process – and dominated from that point on. Lea Auffenberg re-established the lead when she made it 2-1 on the 19-minute mark. The hosts, who twice scored own goals that put BVB 3-1 and 7-1 ahead, hardly ventured out of their own half as BVB controlled the match.

In the 65th minute, hat-trick hero Grothe set up Carolin Marie Kaul to score the seventh goal of the game. "We'd actually planned to go up a gear in the second half. We didn't manage that. Instead, our goalkeeper Sandra Schröer managed to stand out. We can certainly play better and place higher demands on ourselves," declared a motivated Sulewski in spite of the clear victory.

The team have a fixture-free weekend ahead and will next be in action when they travel to FC SV Silschede on 23 October, before the big game against VfL Senden in Dortmund on 30 October.

BVB: Schröer – Klemann, Bergmann, Glänzer, Rechenbach, Becker (Rogge-Herper, 65), Kaul (Goosmann, 75), Zabell (Bedarf, 56), Hentrich (Gerres, 65), Grothe, Auffenberg (Lau, 46)
