The German Football Association (DFB) has announced the winners of the annual Fritz Walter medal for the best young players in the country. For young players born in 2002 and 2004, two BVB players have been awarded the highest possible honour.

Following the cancellation of the prestigious award due to the pandemic in 2021, 24 DFB young stars from both the men's and women's game born between 2002 and 2005 years will be honoured with gold, silver and bronze medals this year.

Youssoufa Moukoko has been named the best young player born in 2004. The 17-year-old, who recently became the youngest Bundesliga player of all time to notch up ten goals in the highest German division, beat out Linus Gechter (Hertha Berlin) and Anton Kade (FC Basel) to win the gold – his first Fritz Walter medal.

Karim Adeyemi, who moved to BVB from Salzburg in the summer, was awarded the gold medal as the best young player born in 2002. For Adeyemi, it is his second Fritz Walter gold medal, having received the top honour for the U17s category in 2019. Silver in the U19s year group goes to Ansgar Knauff, currently on loan from Borussia Dortmund at Eintracht Frankfurt, and bronze to Noah Atubolu of SC Freiburg.
