BVB beat Manchester United in Las Vegas

BVB coach Edin Terzic made three changes compared to the friendly in California, with Sebastien Haller in attack for Youssoufa Moukoko and Donyell Malen replacing Julien Duranville, who got injured in that match – as did Niko Schlotterbeck. New signing Marcel Sabitzer (for Marco Reus) also made his first appearance in Black & Yellow. Jadon Sancho, who was greeted by his former team-mates prior to the warm-up, started for Manchester United. 

The 50,857 spectators at the Allegiant Stadium saw Borussia create their first chance in the second minute when Emre Can played in Karim Adeyemi, but he could not get the better of goalie Tom Heaton. Omari Forson pulled the trigger following a defensive error four minutes later, only for Gregor Kobel to turn the ball around the upright with his fingertips. The teams subsequently cancelled each other out without creating clear chances to score. Four minutes after Adeyemi's shot had been caught (20), Manchester United opened the scoring via Diogo Dalot, who made it 1-0 on the follow-up after a free-kick had been cleared. Malen (27) and Adeyemi (35) were then both kept out by Heaton. The English outfit managed to set up camp in the Dortmund half in the closing stages of the first period. United's best opportunity was thwarted by Gregor Kobel, who turned a Facundo Pellistri free-kick around the post in the 37th minute. But Borussia turned up the heat shortly before the break. In the 43rd minute, Donyell Malen artistically finished off a move involving Adeyemi, Sabitzer and then Adeyemi again from six metres out to level the scores at 1-1. BVB then turned the game on its head 70 seconds later when Sabitzer intercepted the ball and fed Malen on the penalty spot. The half-time whistle then sounded with the score 2-1 to BVB.

Meunier comes off injured

The second period began with a major opportunity for Borussia. Sebastian Haller failed to beat substitute goalkeeper Andre Onana from an unmarked position 10 metres out and Adeyemi fired wide on the follow-up (48). Instead, Antony restored parity at 2-2 four minutes later when he fired into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box after capitalising on a defensive error. BVB subsequently could not get into the opposition box and resorted to long-range shots. The best chance for the Black & Yellows came courtesy of some help from the opposition: Man Utd's Maguire headed the ball against his own bar from a BVB corner (59). Then Thomas Meunier, who had only come off the bench five minutes before, had to be substituted with an injury after pulling up during a sprint.

Once the game was back under way, the spectators saw Borussia score the next goal thanks to some lovely link-up play: Julian Brandt fed Marco Reus, who squared the ball into the middle for Youssoufa Moukoko. The striker was left with a tap-in from five metres out and made it 3-2. The English outfit created several good chances throughout the second period, the best of which was thwarted by Alex Meyer in the Dortmund goal who saved a Marcus Rashford shot. The ball stayed in play but Antony could not get the second attempt on target (83). Two minutes later, Meyer kept out another potential opposition goal from Joe Hughill as BVB held on for a 3-2 victory.
