For years, Borussia Dortmund has been committed to improving basic sports education at primary schools in Dortmund-Scharnhorst. Over the past two years, we have supported Siegfried Drupp Primary School, Kautzky Primary School, Westholz Primary School and Buschei Primary School in Dortmund-Scharnhorst as part of the BVB Primary School Project.

The Siegfried Drupp Primary School, the Kautzky Primary School and the Buschei Primary School will continue to be part of the project. In the future, the BVB will also support the Paul Dohrmann School (special school). In addition to the four schools, four day-care centres and the Scharnhorst Comprehensive School will also become part of the project. From 1 September, the project, which previously consisted of three modules, will be expanded to include qualification programmes, support for sports assistants and physical activity programmes in day-care centres.

The modules at a glance:

Component 1
Support in physical education

Teachers are supported in their lessons by BVB coaches. We want to empower teachers and encourage them to practice ball sports. We also want to increase the amount of physical activity time in physical education classes.

Component 2
Sports club in schools

We facilitate sports clubs, sports assistants from the Scharnhorst Comprehensive School and interested coaches from amateur sports clubs to come to schools.

Component 3
Movement session in the day-care centre

We want to make movement fun for children at an early age and strengthen their self-esteem. In addition, preschool teachers can get ideas for their own movement activities, so that they can later design their own activities.

In the second half of the school year, there will be joint movement sessions with preschool children and pupils from primary schools. In this way, the pre-school children can make their first contacts with the primary school and have an easier start to their school life.

Component 4
Networking

Once a year, the event "Begegnung bei Bewegung" (Meeting while moving) will take place in cooperation with the StadtSportBund and the school department in Dortmund-Scharnhorst. The focus here is on networking between day-care centres, primary schools and clubs. Children should face few hurdles on their way to joining a club. For this reason, socially-minded grassroots sports clubs from the area will showcase their sports and, with the help of a contact person, make it easier for children to join a club.

Component 5
Qualifications

BVB will organise and run qualification programmes for teachers, educators, coaches of amateur sports clubs and sports assistants. Qualification programmes will take place twice a year. In the first half of the school year, we will introduce the topic of Life Kinetics® and give all participants the opportunity to receive further training in this area. In the second half of the school year, there will be a qualification offer from the Ball School Heidelberg on the topic of "Ball School" and "Movement ABC".

Component 6
Sport helpers

The sports assistants at the Gesamtschule-Scharnhorst will have the opportunity to support activities in daycare centres and primary schools. This will enable the young sports assistants to gain their first experience of working with children and developing physical activity programmes catered to their own personalities.

Several BVB departments work together on the BVB primary school project, which is an initiative of the BVB foundation "leuchte auf'' and is led by team members of the BVB Evonik Football Academy. IKK classic and the BVB foundation "leuchte auf" provide financial support for the project. Over the past two years, almost 5,000 children have benefited from the primary school project.
