Clashes between Borussia Dortmund and SG BBM Bietigheim have decided the Women's Handball Bundesliga in recent years. To do justice to this highlight, the top match will be played on 27 December at the Helmut-Körnig-Halle and broadcast by the TV channel Eurosport.

The games between Christmas and New Year's Eve have always been a highlight of the Women's Handball Bundesliga season. The halls are always well attended, the atmospheres superb. This year the absolute top match, which will see champions and cup winners SG BBM Bietigheim visit Dortmund, has been scheduled for the festive season. Borussia Dortmund have decided to leave their home venue of Wellinghofen for the match and play at the larger Helmut-Körnig-Halle.

"We're very pleased to be able to hold this highlight in a special setting. Borussia Dortmund played its matches in the EHF Champions League at the Helmut-Körnig-Halle, so there is a certain tradition to it. More than 2,000 spectators were present for the play-off against Metz in March 2022. We've already gone up against Bietigheim there in the HBF-Supercup in 2021. So we're already very much looking forward to it," said head of department Rupert Thiele.

Another reason for the relocation is the announced television broadcast. Eurosport has broadcast games in the Women's Handball Bundesliga in the past – and a total of 15 games are planned for the current campaign, including the clash between Borussia Dortmund and SG BBM Bietigheim.

"A television presence is enormously important for all the clubs in the Women's Handball Bundesliga, it helps our sport a lot and gives us new marketing opportunities. That's why we see this as enormously positive and are hoping for a great game in a special atmosphere, even if we still have to show a little patience and have many sporting tasks to fulfil in the run-up," Thiele emphasised.
