The Borussia Dortmund U19s got their UEFA Youth League campaign off to a flying start by deservedly beating FC Barcelona on Matchday 1. The BVB goalscorers were Giovanni Reyna (60) and young senior player Tobias Raschl, who slotted home a 69th-minute penalty given for a foul on Immanuel Pherai by shot-stopper Tenas.

The Black & Yellows took some time to recover from the third-minute goal they conceded through Igor and earn the respect of the top team from the world-famous La Masia football academy. It was not until the half-hour mark that BVB created their first chances of the match, although Moukoko, Pherai, Bakir and Reyna were all missing a mixture of consistency and accuracy in front of goal.

The hosts improved significantly in the second half, putting on their best performance of the season in front of 1,050 fans at the Hohenbuschei training ground. Barcelona did pose a threat in and around the box in the first 10 minutes after the restart, but BVB netted twice and could've had a third when Reda Khadra hit the post on 76 minutes.

Next up for the U19s is the top match of the next Bundesliga round against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday. (wiwi)
