The pairings for the UEFA Europa League round of 32 will be drawn on Monday in Nyon at UEFA's headquarters. Borussia Dortmund will be participating in the tournament from this stage on.

Borussia Dortmund fall into the competition for the third time in their history after placing third in the UEFA Champions League group stage, having previously done so in 1999/2000 and in 2001/02 when the competition was still known as the UEFA Cup. BVB made it to the round of 16 in 2000 (against Galatasaray), and made it as far as the final two years later (in Rotterdam against Feyenoord).

Borussia Dortmund continue to play in the UEFA Europa League after their Champions League exit. As one of the four "worse" third placed teams, BVB will either be drawn against one of the twelve winners from the Europa League group stage, or against one of the four best third placed teams from the UEFA Champions League group stage. They cannot, however, be drawn against Rasenballsport Leipzig, as a fixture against a team from the same domestic league is not yet possible at this stage of the competition. What is already certain is that BVB will play the first leg of the tie on 15 February at home, and that the second leg will be played away on the 22 February. (br)
