The team enjoyed relaxed celebrations in front of the fans and in the dressing room, and they were praised by both the domestic and international press alike. A 4-2 (2-0) win over Atletico Madrid was enough to see Borussia Dortmund through to the semi-finals of Europe's elite club competition for the fifth time! BVB have previously reached this stage in 1964, 1997, 1998 and 2013.

The post by internet user "lina0231" provided an accurate summary of what happened in the stadium between 22:30 CEST – when Niclas Füllkrug scored to make it 3-2 – and 22:53 – when referee Slavko Vincic blew his final whistle. "You're an AppleWatch on someone's wrist in Block 12, squashed somewhere between umpteen different body parts and BVB have just made it to the semi-finals," she wrote, showing a screenshot that displayed a noise level of up to 117 decibels. That's the same as an aeroplane taking off.

The international media singled out the harmony between fans and footballers as an important reason for the team's progression. "Dortmund and the famous Yellow Wall crush Atletico," wrote El Pais. "Atletico crumble under the Yellow Wall," wrote the Spanish newspaper Sport, before providing a succinct analysis: "If you concede four goals in a Champions League game, it's impossible to make it through to the next round." Marca took a similar view of things: "Borussia believed in themselves and were rewarded for it." The British newspaper The Independent commented: "Dortmund gave an incredible response to win a pulsating quarter-final," while The Guardian wrote: "Another raw and savage night of Champions League football at the Westfalen: the colours vivid, the sounds ear-shattering." The Swiss publication Blick wrote: "After the first-leg defeat in Madrid, BVB came back spectacularly in their home fortress – despite a few setbacks along the way." Finally, the Italian Gazzetta dello Sport: "Dortmund party in a frantic show. A masterpiece. In 2013, BVB pulled off a spectacular win over Malaga – this time they scored two goals in three minutes against another Spanish team."

The journey continues. On 30 April or 1 May – UEFA will announce the exact schedule on Thursday – BVB will once again play with 12 vs 11.
