They are usually exciting encounters when the Black & Yellows take on the Green & Whites. No other fixture in Bundesliga history has produced more victories from a 1-0 losing position, with the team that conceded the first goal winning on 16 occasions. Although Bremen have scored marginally more goals than Dortmund in their previous meetings (168-163), the latter have more wins (43-41). Here are the match facts.

The scenario: Third-placed BVB have three wins, one draw and one defeat from their opening five matches, while 10th-placed SVW have won two and lost three. Borussia have only been defeated in one of their last nine Bundesliga meetings with Werder, although they did get knocked out of the DFB Cup by Bremen at home last term.

Home/away: Dortmund have only lost one of their last 19 home games and have always scored at least one goal in each of their last 27 games at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. If they score on Saturday, they will equal a club record set between 2011 and 2012. On the road this season, Bremen narrowly lost to Hoffenheim (3-2) and narrowly beat Union (2-1).

Personnel matters: Lucien Favre will provide updates on the personnel situation at the matchday press conference at 13:30 CET. Werder will be without the injured Augustinsson, Bartels, Möhwald, Füllkrug, Moisander and Osako, while Toprak is a doubt too.

Head-to-head record: In their Bundesliga history, BVB have only beaten Frankfurt more times (44) than Werder (43), although they have only suffered more defeats to Bayern Munich (46) than they have to Bremen (41). Borussia have won 11 of their past 12 Bundesliga home games against Bremen, with their one defeat in that run a 2-1 loss in December 2017. Borussia Dortmund have lost more times against Bremen after being 1-0 up than any other team (nine), but equally they have come from 1-0 down to beat SVW more often than any other club (seven, most recently in 2016/17). Nine of the 11 penalties awarded at the Strobelallee have been in Dortmund's favour. Marco Reus has scored more goals against Werder than anyone else (12) and has 20 scorer points from his 16 clashes with them.

Statistics: Only Bayern (16) have scored more goals than Dortmund (15) this term. Matches involving the Black & Yellows this season have produced 22 goals, which equates to 4.4 goals per game on average. Bremen have six points on the board – significantly fewer than at the same stage of last season (11).

Biggest home win: The Westphalians have scored 163 times in the previous meetings between the clubs. The most they have managed in a game was in a 5-0 home victory on 2 February 1980 thanks to goals from Wolfgang Vöge, Theo Schneider (two), Manfred Burgsmüller and Herbert Hein.

Attendance: Signal Iduna Park is sold-out with 81,365 fans set to attend. Bremen will bring 7,500 supporters.

Referee: The DFB has not yet specified the appointment.
