In front of around 1,500 spectators, Borussia Dortmund's U23s clinched their first home win at the Rote Erde stadium this season. The young Black & Yellows defeat local rivals Duisburg 4-1 (1-1) thanks to goals from Steffen Tigges (2), Berkan Taz and Timo Bornemann.

Before the game: After just over two years at BVB, team manager Ingo Preuß bid farewell to centre-back Maximilian Hippe before kick-off. The 23-year-old is moving to league rivals 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Hippe played 45 times for the Dortmund U23s and scored two goals. We wish Max all the best for the future!

The opposition: MSV Duisburg had started the season with two wins and three defeats. Coach Pavel Dotchev's side lost 2-0 away to Wehen Wiesbaden in their most recent match.

Personnel matters: BVB coach Enrico Maaßen made just one change to the starting line-up from the game in Osnabrück, with Antonios Papadopoulos coming into the side to replace the suspended Lennard Maloney.

The match: The opening minutes of the match belonged to BVB. The Black & Yellows were full of running and put MSV under pressure early on. The first chance of the match was a Niklas Dams header from a Marco Pasalic corner. Just five minutes later, the Duisburg goal was under threat once more: a Tobi Raschl shot flew inches wide of the right-hand post. BVB's third goalscoring opportunity of the match then fell to Marco Pasalic on the 20-minute mark: played in on goal by Steffen Tigges, the winger was unable to keep his effort under the bar.

BVB were comfortably on top, and soon had their next sight of goal through Richmond Tachie in the 21st minute. The visitors saw little of the ball, focusing instead on keeping it tight at the back. Rare were the occasions when they got men forward to the final third. A headed effort from Vincent Gembalies in the 27th minute was their first effort on the Dortmund goal.

One minute later, MSV made the most of a lapse in concentration in the Dortmund backline to snatch a 1-0 lead. Kolja Pusch squared the ball to Orhan Ademi, who had an easy finish from close range. However, the Black & Yellows didn't let the setback get to them. Steffen Tigges headed home a Marco Pasalic corner to level the scores at 1-1.

BVB pushed for a second after the Tigges goal. Marco Pasalic's shot from the edge of the box was expertly saved by Duisburg goalkeeper Leo Weinkauf (40). The two sides went in for the half-time break with the scores tied at 1-1.

After the change of ends, the spectators in the Rote Erde saw a similar picture as at the start of the match. BVB set the pace early on and had chances to grab the lead through Ansgar Knauff (48), Berkan Taz (49) and Marco Pasalic (50). It was a case of fourth time lucky, as Berkan Taz got the better of Weinkauf from a tight angle to make it 2-1 (51).

Duisburg then adopted a more attacking approach, which left more space in behind for Dortmund to exploit. This led to Tigges's second goal of the match, which was set up by Berkan Taz. 3-1 down, the Zebras were unable to muster up a response. The Black & Yellows continued to push forward and place the Duisburg defence under immense pressure.

BVB coach Enrico Maaßen made a total of five changes in the second half, looking to conserve energy after a busy week. Duisburg seemed to lay down and accept their fate, not managing even one effort on goal in the second half. The last notable action of the match belonged to substitute Timo Bornemann, who netted BVB's fourth goal after being teed up by Immanuel Pherai. The result was beyond any doubt. After six matchdays. BVB sit in third place in the 3. Liga table with 11 points.
