Frida Rønning will remain with the Borussia Dortmund women's handball team for at least one more year. The Norwegian playmaker extended her contract until the summer of 2024 and there is also an option to continue the cooperation beyond that.

"I feel very comfortable as a player here. We have a great group, you sense that," Rønning said of her decision, adding: "I will soon have been here two years and I really like it in Dortmund. I'm very satisfied with my development and happy about the fact that I can stay at BVB."

Rønning moved to Dortmund from her hometown club Oppsal IF in the summer of 2021 and quickly settled into her new surroundings. She predominantly featured as a playmaker to begin with, but this season the 25-year-old has been given an increasing number of minutes on the right of the backcourt. She has made 12 Bundesliga appearances this term, during which she has scored 39 goals and set up 35 more.

Rupert Thiele, the interim head of department, is delighted with the contract extension: "Following the departure of Alina Grijseels, it was important for us that we could keep a player in a very central position who already knows her team-mates, the environment and the league too. Frida is synonymous with total professionalism, great ambition and a lot of quality."
