Abdoulaye Kamara joined BVB from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer of 2021. At the French club, he had played in the U19s and trained with the first team squad. He was also on the bench in a UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl sees him as a "a highly talented and still very young player. We hope that he will now continue to develop with the first team and take the next step". Kamara feels the most comfortable in the central defensive midfield and keeps the ball very well.
In his first season at BVB, he played 10 games for the U19s and 14 times for the U23s in the 3. Liga in 2021/22.
