Borussia Dortmund’s training ground looked deserted when Shinji Kagawa turned up for his first day at the office on Monday. There were only a handful of his former teammates around to shake hands with.

In Nuri Sahin, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Marcel Schmelzer, Sven Bender, Sebastian Kehl and Ilkay Gündogan, the Japanese only met six of his former teammates, with all others being away on national duty. A total of 16 players earned call-ups to their national squads, and with the exception of the injured Nuri Sahin (knee) all have joined up with their teams.

And so Kagawa spent his first working day in the gym, under the watchful eye of BVB fitness coach Dr. Andreas Schlumberger. But, of course, Jürgen Klopp also dropped by to say hello…
