Human rights in the value chain
As one of the largest employers in the region and a youth training center for male and female soccer players, BVB touches on many interests through its social influence and numerous business relationships with business partners. Due to the complexity of its business, sporting, and social activities, these activities can have many positive effects, but they can also have negative human rights impacts on various groups of people. Potentially and in reality, these can arise on, next to, and around the pitch, as well as in BVB's upstream and downstream value chains.
It is our aim to prevent, avoid, and minimize these negative impacts and to actively oppose any form of discrimination and inhumane attitudes and behavior. This also applies to any form of violence, whether physical or psychological. BVB has therefore enshrined the protection of the human rights of its stakeholders in its sustainability strategy.
Borussia Dortmund is bound by direct activities and contractual relationships within a legally defined framework that serves to uphold and protect human rights. The main human rights risks arise primarily within supply chains, for example in the procurement of jerseys, equipment, and merchandising items. In such cases, it cannot be ruled out that production conditions may not comply with international standards. Violations of fundamental rights can occur, particularly in countries with weak control systems.
Borussia Dortmund is clearly committed to respecting human rights. As a member, BVB promotes the ten principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. Our position is documented in detail in our Human Rights Policy.
In addition to these policy documents, concrete measures and reporting channels help us to protect human rights and prevent violations.
