Impact by fans
The large and diverse fan community is at the heart of Borussia Dortmund – and it plays a central role in the sustainable development of BVB.
Together with our fans, we can make a real difference: whether through more environmentally conscious travel to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, support for social projects and initiatives, or creative volunteer work.
Here you will find a selection of ways in which you can actively participate with us in contributing to societal success.
As part of its “United by Borussia” initiative and its work on diversity and anti-discrimination, Borussia Dortmund has been organizing memorial and educational trips to former concentration and extermination camps of the Nazi regime for many years.
Fans, members, employees, and partners can regularly sign up for this historical and political educational program, which includes annual trips to Oświęcim in Poland and the Lublin region.
Borussia Dortmund embodies diversity and anti-discrimination in its daily activities. We are firmly committed to these values, which are an integral part of the black and yellow culture and are brought to life at various events, among other things.
Whether it's discussion groups on combating violence against women or conversations with Holocaust survivors: BVB fans can also learn, get involved, and take a stand by attending an event.
Since early 2025, the DFL has been offering a carpooling portal for all Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga matches. At bundesliga-mitfahrportal.de, fans can select their favorite club and search for or offer rides to home and away games.
The portal thus also enables BVB fans to form carpools throughout Germany, thereby not only reducing individual travel costs but also actively contributing to the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
For over 30 years, travel on public transport in the region has been included in Borussia Dortmund's home game ticket. Back in 1990, BVB and DSW21 were pioneers and the first transport company and Bundesliga club to jointly introduce the combined ticket.
At the start of the 2021/2022 season, the two partners also launched a service that is unique in the Bundesliga, strengthening local public transport and further contributing to reducing emissions. The ticket for SIGNAL IDUNA PARK is valid for travel throughout the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
This gives BVB fans the opportunity to travel from home to the stadium and back not only free of charge, but also in a much more environmentally friendly way.
Since the 2023/2024 season, BVB fans and all visitors to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK have had the opportunity to donate their cup deposit to our BVB foundation “leuchte auf”. The donations go directly to the projects and organizations supported by the foundation. The cups can be returned to special collection boxes at designated locations in the stadium.
For several years now, BVB has been working with network partners to organize targeted blood donation and stem cell donor registration campaigns. In 2023, BVB fan Fabian was even found to be a suitable donor and potential lifesaver during the season opener. This is a perfect example of how joint commitment to a good cause pays off – and can sometimes even save lives.
It is not only on the green turf that commitment and passionate dedication are usually the glue that binds many individual parts into a strong unit – voluntary work is also essential for a functioning society.
As part of the flagship project “Black and Yellow Family”, our “leuchte auf” foundation supports BVB fans in their efforts to promote societal success and become active. The foundation provides financial support for projects in which fan clubs volunteer their time. The foundation's support is intended to reduce the mental barriers to social engagement for fans and fan clubs.
