The Black & Yellow schedule for October

Two Champions League games, three Bundesliga matches and the DFB-Pokal tie against VfL Wolfsburg are on the agenda for the Borussia Dortmund first team in October. And with the first-ever derby between the BVB women and FC Schalke 04, the U19s' Ruhr derby against their Gelsenkirchen rivals and the top match in the Women's Handball Bundesliga between the BVB women and reigning German champions Ludwigsburg (formerly Bietigheim), even more Black & Yellow highlights await the BVB fans this month.

Tuesday 1 October (21:00 CEST): BVB vs. Celtic
After the 3-0 away win over Club Brugge in the opening Champions League match, the Black & Yellows have their first home game in the competition this season. Borussia will play host to Celtic on Tuesday evening. The Scottish champions demolished Slovan Bratislava by a 5-1 scoreline on the first Champions League matchday of the current campaign. With three wins and one defeat, BVB's Champions League record against the Scots is positive.

Saturday 5 October (15:30 CEST): Union Berlin vs. BVB
Union Berlin are the opponents on Bundesliga Matchday 6. The game in the capital is BVB's last one before the international break, with the campaign not set to resume until the St. Pauli game a fortnight later. For Julian Ryerson, there will be a reunion with his former team-mates: the Borussia player had a spell with the Berlin outfit – where former Dortmund player Tom Rothe has been lining up at left-back since the summer – from 2018 to 2022. With two wins, two draws and one defeat from their five matches, Union are behind BVB (10 points) in the table with eight points on the board.

Saturday 5 October (19:00 CEST): Handball Anniversary Match: BVB Women vs. Sport-Union Neckarsulm
We're celebrating 100 years of handball with the Handball Anniversary Matchday! To mark the 100th birthday of the Borussia Dortmund handball department, all visitors to the upcoming DHB-Pokal last 16 clash with Sport-Union Neckarsulm can look forward to a Black & Yellow entertainment programme at Halle Wellinghofen. There will be free drinks for all visitors throughout the evening as a thank-you for their support. Tickets for the game against Sport-Union Neckarsulm are available via the Online Ticket Shop.

Friday 18 October (20:30 CEST): BVB vs. FC St. Pauli
Another Friday evening fixture, another home game: Borussia will kick off the matchday under the floodlights for the third time this Bundesliga season. The visitors after the international break will be promoted outfit St. Pauli, who celebrated their first Bundesliga victory since returning to the top flight when won 3-0 at SC Freiburg at the end of September. Borussia's record against the Hamburg club is positive (16 wins, five draws, one defeat); however, the Black & Yellows lost the most recent clash: Marco Rose's team were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal following a 2-1 loss in the last 16 at the Millerntor in January 2022.

Saturday 19 October (11:00 CEST): BVB U19s vs. FC Schalke 04 U19s
The young Ruhr derby will not only be shown on the BVB Twitch channel, but will also be broadcast live on Sky. Mike Tullberg's Black & Yellow U19s comfortably beat the highly regarded FC Schalke 04 3-1 away at the Parkstadion in the reverse fixture of this new U19 Nachwuchsliga campaign. Jonas Feddersen, Mussa Kaba and Cole Campbell turned the game around following a 1-0 deficit. After eight matchdays, the unbeaten Black & Yellows are top of the table in Group C; the Gelsenkirchen outfit have already lost two matches – including the one against the Black & Yellows.

Tuesday 22 October (21:00 CEST) Real Madrid vs. BVB
The third matchday of the UEFA Champions League league phase will see a repeat edition of the final from 1 June: Nuri Sahin's charges will be away to reigning champions Real Madrid. There have already between 15 meetings between the two clubs, producing three wins, five draws and seven defeats from a Dortmund perspective. Real are the most successful football club in the world with 15 titles in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League, two UEFA Cup triumphs and 13 other international titles. After the Wembley final, the meeting at the Santiago Bernabeu will see a quick reunion with former Borussia player Jude Bellingham, Germany international Antonio Rüdiger and Kylian Mbappé, who played for Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final last season.

Saturday 26 October (15:30 CEST): FC Augsburg vs. BVB
Between the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal, Dortmund will pay a visit to Augsburg. BVB have fond memories of facing FCA. Borussia ran out 5-1 home winners last April, although they had only managed to pick up a point in a 1-1 stalemate in the reverse fixture before Christmas. Donyell Malen found the net in both games for the Black & Yellows. There will be a reunion in Augsburg with Marius Wolf, who joined Augsburg following his departure from BVB in the summer.

Sunday 27 October (15:00 CEST): FC Schalke 04 Women vs. BVB Women
It is the first-ever Ruhr derby in the history of the BVB women. Coach Thomas Sulewski's team will make the trip to face the Gelsenkirchen outfit at the end of October, with the return fixture in Dortmund set to take place on 27 April next year. The derby will also be a meeting of the top two in this still young Westfalenliga season. With six rounds of matches gone, the Borussia ladies (15) are a point behind the FC Schalke women (16) in second position.

Tuesday 29 October (20:45 CEST): VfL Wolfsburg vs. BVB
After the Bundesliga and the Champions League, the BVB players will be in action in the second round of the DFB-Pokal at the end of October: the Black & Yellows are away to VfL Wolfsburg. The match will take place at the Volkswagen Arena and will be broadcast live on Sky and ARD. BVB have previously met the Wolves twice in the cup. The Black & Yellows beat the Lower Saxony side 2-0 at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK to reach the Berlin final in 2014, then suffered a 3-1 defeat to VfL in the final in May 2015. In the Bundesliga, the two teams will go head-to-head on the final matchday before the winter break (21/12). That match will also take place in Wolfsburg.

Wednesday 30 October (19:30 CEST): BVB Women's Handballers vs. Ludwigsburg
Different name, same opponent: The Borussia Dortmund women's handballers will host their long-standing rivals and the German champions from Baden-Württemberg on the penultimate day of October. The SG BBM Bietigheim management decided on a switch to HB Ludwigsburg before the season due to better sponsorship opportunities and more support from the city. The players and coaches have unanimously complied with the request. So on the seventh matchday of the Women's Handball Bundesliga, it will be BVB versus Ludwigsburg. The Ludwigsburg women, who are taking part in the EHF Champions League again this season, won both meetings with BVB last season (31-23 and 31-20).
