Story
Marcel Raducanu turns 70
In 1980, he was voted footballer of the year in his country, won the league and cup twice with Steaua Bucharest and was thus awarded the rank of captain in accordance with the customs of the Ceausescu regime. After his courageous escape, the strong dribbling midfielder is now looking for his luck in the West. The summer of 1981 is the turning point in the life of Marcel Raducanu!
Borussia was lucky to get him, and after a brief odyssey via Hannover, Raducanu, born on 21 October 1954 in Bucharest, ended up at the Black & Yellows. At a time when there was little quality in the team, the 1.78-metre ball artist gave the Dortmund game a touch of genius again. The fact that the delicate technician did not win the title in 167 games for BVB until 1988 is simply due to the difficult times of a club in transition. The most memorable of these was the relegation play-off against Fortuna Köln in 1986, especially the second leg on 19 May in Dortmund, which ended 3-1, when "Radu" scored one of his few headed goals and thus ultimately helped the club to avoid relegation.
The lovable "Eastern Bloc" star of yore has remained loyal to Dortmund and lives with his wife Anna in Dortmund-Hombruch. The proud father of two adult sons has been passing on his knowledge of the round leather ball to the next generation at his football school in Dortmund-Körne for years. He is always welcome back among the traditional team, where he often conjured up magic. His recently published biography gives the reader a fascinating insight into the life of a football star between East and West. Marcel Raducanu can now look back on 70 years of life. Borussia and the whole of Dortmund congratulate the birthday boy!
