U23s sign Arne Wessels

Borussia Dortmund have signed centre-forward Arne Wessels for the U23s. The 19-year-old striker joins from Oberliga outfit SpVg Schonnebeck. After Jan Zimmermann's team have held their training camp, he will return to the Oberliga club on loan until the end of the season.

"Arne had offers from other clubs due to his great goalscoring record but quickly decided to join us, because we were able to convince him of our approach," said Ingo Preuß, the sporting director of the Borussia Dortmund U23s. The youngster will travel with the team to Belek in Türkiye for the training camp, before subsequently returning to the north-east of Essen until the end of the season. "We want Arne to achieve promotion to the Regionalliga with Schonnebeck, complete his school qualifications and join us fully raring to go in the summer," added Preuß.

After two starts and 16 substitute appearances last season, the left-footed player is a first-team regular for the current leaders of the Oberliga Nordrhein for the first time. With 20 goals and 14 assists across 16 league appearances, he has been involved in more than half the goals and has had a big hand in the Essen suburb club's success.

Kobel brilliantly tipped a follow-up shot from Treu around the post in the 69th minute, and also showed strong reactions to save Suzuki\u2019s shot, which had taken a wicked deflection off Bensebaini, in the 74th minute.
