The Black & Yellow guide to August
Thursday, 1 August: Start of training camp
The BVB first team head out for training camp on the first day of the month. The nine-day training camp in Bad Ragaz starts this Thursday. In Switzerland, head coach Nuri Sahin is looking to lay the foundations for a long and hopefully successful season with his players. If you want to attend the public training sessions at the "Ri-Au" training ground, you can find all the information here. For those who have stayed home, BVB TV will broadcast the public training sessions and the friendly against Villarreal live.
Tuesday 6 August, (18:30 CEST): BVB – Villarreal
The only friendly match of this year's training camp will take place at the Cashpoint Arena in the Austrian town of Altach (live on BVB TV and Sky). Our opponents will be Villarreal, who finished eighth in Spain's La Liga last season. Two years ago, the two teams met in Altach, with BVB losing 2-0.
Saturday 10 August (17:00 CEST): BVB – Aston Villa (season opener)
BVB return home: the first team will play their final friendly match of the pre-season at home as they welcome English Premier League side Aston Villa to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK (live on BVB TV and Sky). But the big season opener event will not only focus on the game itself, as the entire squad, including new signings Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy, will be presented to the fans. Saturday 17 August (18:00 CEST): 1. FC Phönix Lübeck – BVB
The first competitive game of the season is already scheduled: the Black & Yellows will take on 1. FC Phoenix Lübeck in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. However, the game will not be played in Lübeck, because the Buniamshof is not a suitable venue for a DFB-Pokal first round game. Instead, the match will be played in Hamburg, about 70 km away, at Hamburger SV's Volkspark stadium.
Saturday 24 August (18:30 CEST): BVB – Eintracht Frankfurt
One week after the first competitive match of the season, the Bundesliga will be back underway too. On Matchday 1, BVB will play host to Eintracht Frankfurt at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. The Black & Yellows have won their last three home games against the Hessians, including a 3-1 win in March 2024.
Saturday 31 August (15:30 CEST): Werder Bremen – BVB
The last away match in Bremen was not long ago: BVB secured a 2-1 on the Weser in March. After just two Bundesliga matches, the league will already be paused, for an international break.
