Julian Brandt on the podcast: "I have a responsibility in this regard"

The 2024 training camp in Bad Ragaz is over and Borussia are taking big strides towards the start of the season. Julian Brandt, the new BVB vice-captain behind Emre Can, spoke on the podcast with Christoph Bökamp and Sven Westerschulze about the training sessions under Nuri Sahin, the bond between the team and the fans, and his own development in Dortmund.

Julian Brandt is about to start his sixth season in Black & Yellow. The 28-year-old, who moved to Dortmund from Leverkusen in 2019, has developed further as a person and a player and is going into the upcoming season with a good feeling. "I'm super positive and looking forward to it. And I will of course do my part. I have to, I have a responsibility in that regard." Not only because the attacking player now holds the vice-captaincy and officially occupies a leadership role, or because he is wearing the No. 10 on the back of his shirt his season. "I have to take another step forward this year in terms of responsibility, which Nuri also expects of me and which he has clearly communicated to me."

But Nuri Sahin is not the only new coach who has made an impression on Julian Brandt in the first few weeks: "Piszczu recently took part in a training match, five-a-side, in which he scored the most goals. So my colleague is still fit." But that's not the only reason why the Borussia player is delighted about the return of Lukasz Piszczek, whom he himself played alongside. "There have rarely been players I've had as much respect for as him."

Lukasz Piszczek was there for him, especially when things weren't going so well for Brandt in his second season in Black & Yellow. "Sometimes I was just pumping iron with him every day and we talked a lot. He made no distinction as to whether you were someone who is the main guy and who scores goals and gets assists, or whether you're someone who's a bit out of the spotlight and who sits on the bench a lot. For him, it was just about giving your all."

You can see and hear why Julian Brandt thinks the new coaching team is good for BVB, how he assesses the competition in the Bundesliga this season and who is taking over Jadon Sancho's role as the DJ in the dressing room in the podcast video with Julian Brandt.
