U19s improve after the break and win 4-1
Duisburg, who had kicked off their campaign with two defeats against SV Meppen and TSV Meerbusch, took a 1-0 lead courtesy of their first successful attack (36). BVB restored parity at 1-1 in the 47th minute through Diego Ngambia, who had come on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half. Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta got the goal to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute. The Austrian also rounded off the scoring, after Mussa Kaba had made it 3-1 (75).
Mike Tullberg was forced into changing the starting line-up following the convincing display in the 3-1 win away to FC Schalke 04. Cole Campbell, who was outstanding in the derby, and attacker Pharell Kegni (torn muscle fibres) were unavailable. But Samuele Inacio, who has joined BVB from Atalanta, made his debut in midfield, while Alex Niziolek occupied the centre-forward role.
Despite their full control over the match, the team lacked speed, movement and passing precision. Duisburg showed great commitment in defence and were rewarded for their battling performance when Jonas Feddersen scored via a slight deflection to open the scoring at 1-0. "We didn't defend this counter well," said Mike Tullberg. The Black & Yellows might have had a lot of possession, but they sought to get into the penalty area almost exclusively through the centre – and MSV had closed it down completely.
Tullberg delighted with successful start
"The second period was top, we could have ultimately won by a much higher margin," said a delighted Mike Tullberg of the considerably improved performance in the second period. The personnel changes paid off, and following some successful tactical corrections, Borussia increasingly attacked down the flanks. That was how Ousmane Diallo assisted the leveller at 1-1 and Joshua Burstedde set up the goals for 2-1 and 3-1. Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta then put the finishing touches on a one-sided game following a Nick Cherny free-kick.
"When you consider who was absent, you have to praise the boys. They've made a great start to the new league," said Mike Tullberg, who is delighted with the nine points and 12-2 goal difference. They are away to TSV Meerbusch on Sunday (kick-off 11:00 CEST).
