From 19 to 9: Guirassy switches shirt number
It's not exactly common for a player to switch his shirt number during the course of the season. The No. 9 shirt, which Guirassy will wear moving forward, was still occupied by his fellow forward Sebastien Haller back when the first competitive match of the season got under way. However, as Haller did not make an appearance in Black & Yellow prior to joining Spanish top-flight team CD Leganes on loan and Guirassy is still awaiting his BVB debut following his recovery from an injury, it is still possible to switch numbers according to the regulations. The number switch also applies to the upcoming campaign in the UEFA Champions League. Guirassy could make his first appearance for Borussia with the No. 9 on his back in the Bundesliga match against 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday evening (13/09, 20:30 CEST). "He's fully fit and has trained really well in the last two weeks," explained BVB head coach Nuri Sahin at the press conference on Wednesday.
There is good news for all Borussia Dortmund supporters who have already purchased a shirt with Guirassy's No. 19 on the back: All buyers will receive a new shirt with Guirassy's No. 9 on the back in exchange for returning their ‘old’ shirt, the cost of which will be covered by Serhou Guirassy himself and BVB.
