Pre-Match Report
U23s to host Alemannia Aachen under the floodlights
BVB personnel: It is not possible to predict whom coach Jan Zimmermann will field. Due to the U19s‘ match in the UEFA Youth League in midweek and the first team's game in Stuttgart at the same time, the matchday squad will only be finalised at short notice.
Stats and facts on the opposition: Alemannia have had some turbulent times. For years, the tradition-steeped club was a permanent fixture in the 2. Bundesliga table. The 2004 cup campaign was also unforgettable: Aachen reached the DFB-Pokal final and qualified for the UEFA Cup. Their decline then followed in 2012 and Aachen were in the Regionalliga West by the 2013/14 season. In March 2017, the club filed for insolvency. However, ATSV have been making positive headlines once again since last season, when they made their return to the 3. Liga. Their first home win in the third tier for more than 11 years followed last week. Aachen were active again on the transfer market in midweek and signed the attacking midfielder Ayman Aourir, who most recently played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Head-to-head record: Of the 16 meetings to date, Borussia have won on five occasions. There have also been five draws and six Aachen victories. The most recent competitive meeting came in Dortmund on 17 January 2021, when BVB ran out 2-1 winners thanks to an Ansgar Knauff brace.
Outlook: "We played a really good game in footballing terms against Sandhausen, with 24 shots at goal. In the end, we lacked the decisive moment to put the ball in the net. The same applies at the back to the defence. But we will work on that week-in, week-out. The path that we are on feels right. And we want to show that on Sunday too," said U23 coach Jan Zimmermann, who has clear expectations for the game that will round off the Matchday 6 action in the 3. Liga.
The stadium opens at 18:00 CEST. Tickets are available via the Online Ticket Shop or the box office at a price of €10 for a seat and €5 for a standing place.
