Match Report
BVB women win 5-1 against Bielefeld II
The BVB women made two changes from the team who started the match in Ibbenbüren, with Marjana Naceva and Mandy Reinhardt replacing Marah Tayeh and Sarah Giebels, who both dropped to the bench. Coach Thomas Sulewski's team got off to the perfect start when Paula Reimann took advantage of the first chance of the game to give the Black & Yellows a 1-0 lead after a corner in the fourth minute. A few minutes later, Mandy Reinhardt kept a cool head in the turmoil and poked the ball over the line to make it 2-0 in the 9th minute.
In the period that followed, Borussia controlled proceedings, without creating any further clear-cut chances. "The girls came out on fire and did very well. After that, we lost our way a bit and did not go through our game like that anymore," said Sulewski.
The personal duel between the two top goalscorers in the league going into the game, Marie Grothe at BVB and Haley Jane Flatemersch at Bielefeld, ended goalless. Meanwhile, while their goal tallies remained at six, Finnja Schriek pushed past the pair, taking her tally from five to seven. Schriek scored her first goal to make it 3-0 in the 43rd minute after a nice one-two with Marie Grothe.
It was Grothe again who put Schriek clean through with a back-heel after the sides changed ends, and Schriek fired a low, driven shot into the bottom left corner to make it 4-0 in the 51st minute. The 18-year-old completed her three-pack in the 55th minute after fine through ball from Mia Macarena Bedarf. Clean through against Arminia keeper Amelie Norf, Schreik remained calm, rounded the goalkeeper and prodded home to make it 5-0. "A well-deserved home victory. Of course, I am satisfied with the three goals, and it was a successful game," said Finnja Schriek.
On 77 minutes, Laureen Brilka pulled one back for Bielefeld to make it 5-1. "We started the second half well and were very satisfied with the 5-1, even though the late goal annoyed us a bit," said Sulewski in conclusion.
The BVB women remain in hot pursuit of top side Schalke in the Westfalenliga. After the Matchday 5, Dortmund remain just one point behind their local rivals.
