BVB women retain indoor city championship title

Mission title defence a success! The BVB women secured the city indoor championship trophy with a commanding 4-0 victory over TuS Eichlinghofen in the final. Julia Cieslik, Christin Schweissinger, Angelina Weber and Sarah Giebels scored the goals for the Black & Yellows in the final. 

After successfully qualifying as group winners in the preliminary round and with a goal difference of 43 scored and just one conceded, the BVB women competed in the final round of the indoor city championship on Saturday. The Borussia women got off to a perfect start in their first group match against their eventual opponents in the final from Eichlinghofen, defeating the Bezirksliga team 4-0. Julia Cieslik scored two goals, with Nora Willeke and Charlotte Weber also finding the back of the net.

In their second group match, the Black & Yellows also came away with a 4-0 victory. The goals were scored by Christin Schweissinger, C. Weber, Angelina Weber and Julia Gödecke following an assist from Willeke, who made a solo run the length of the pitch before laying it off to Gödecke to finish in the Wambeler SV goal.

In the final game of the group stage, the BVB women remained true to their form and celebrated another 4-0 win, with goals from Willeke, Sarah Giebels, Mia Bedarf and Schweissinger, who scored her ninth goal of the tournament.

Next up was the semi-final against TuS Esborn. Esborn kept a clean sheet for a long time before C. Weber opened the scoring for BVB and set course for the final. Gödecke increased the lead to 2-0 before Mandy Reinhardt bagged a brace to put the Black & Yellows 4-0 up on the scoreboard.

In the final, the BVB women once again faced their previous group opponents, TuS Eichlinghofen, who had beaten Regionalliga side TV Brechten on penalties in the semi-final. The BVB women did not miss a beat in this encounter either and ultimately secured the title with their fifth 4-0 victory of the day. The goals were scored by Cieslik, Schweissinger, Weber and Giebels. Schweissinger scored ten goals in the tournament and was honoured as the top scorer.

The BVB women will play their first friendly match of the winter preparations next Sunday, 19 January, when they visit 1. FSV Mainz 05 (kick-off 15:00 CET).
