Post-Match Report

Reactions: “After leading 2-0 at half-time, we have to see it through to the end.”

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl, team captain and goalscorer Emre Can, goalscorer Maximilian Beier and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel spoke to the media after the wild 3-3 draw with VfB Stuttgart. Here are the match reactions.

Sebastian Kehl (in the mixed zone): “If you look at the game impartially, you might say: scoring chances on both sides, a frantic back-and-forth and, in the end, two teams that gave it their all. The impartial observer might say it was a fair draw, but we are obviously disappointed. When you’re leading 2-0 and then score to make it 3-2 so late in the game, you have to take the three points. We can’t concede three goals at home. We have to blame ourselves for not being sharp enough after making it 3-2.”

Emre Can (on Sky): “Very disappointing. After leading 2-0 at half-time, we have to see it through. Then we scored to make it 3-2 very, very late and conceded a goal in return. That should never happen to us. We have to defend much better overall. That wasn’t good today. We just have to be more aggressive – especially me on the second goal. I completely misjudged the situation. I thought we were further to the right of the goal. It’s on me, and the other two goals were cheap too.”

Maximilian Beier (on Sky): “You score in the 90th minute and then concede the equaliser in the 90th minute. The mood is at rock bottom right now. We conceded the goals too easily. We let him (Stuttgart’s Führich, ed.) dribble into the middle too easily for the third goal, and Deniz (Undav) is a cool customer who just scores those goals. We know each other, we understand each other very well — and we all know that we can’t let him shoot at goal so freely.”

Gregor Kobel (in the mixed zone): “In terms of chances, the result was perhaps fair, but in this manner, it is of course extremely frustrating again. All of the goals we conceded were avoidable. We need to be more focused. We have to be more consistent in defence. It was the work we've done in defence that has made us strong.”
