Three days ago, BVB picked up a 2-1 win in the Bundesliga in Leverkusen despite having six shots to their opponents' 16. But then Bayer 04 won 1-0 in the cup in Dortmund with six shots compared to 18 for BVB. Here are the match facts.

First home defeat in nine months: Borussia Dortmund lost a home game for the first time since March, when they were beaten by Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Captain fantastic: Emre Can had a good game against the speedy Poku, winning around two-thirds of their duels until the Leverkusen left-winger was substituted.

Caution: Waldemar Anton’s yellow card in the 68th minute was the result of only the second foul by Borussia Dortmund in the match.

Starting line-up debut: In his 12th competitive match for BVB, Fabio Silva, who three days earlier had set up Adeyemi’s goal to make it 2-0 in Leverkusen, started for the first time.

We out there must also stand together and fight against adversity. Every single player saw today what is most important in life: health.\u201d<\/p>\nEmre Can was particularly happy about a reunion. The captain had already visited little Mustafa in the hospital a few weeks ago. The welcome on ward K41, the paediatric oncology ward, was correspondingly warm when he arrived with the whole team this time. \u201cMustafa is extremely cool and extremely strong. He is a little fighter. We had a great time together last time, and again today. The children get a real boost when we come here. It\u2019s nice when we can put a smile on the children\u2019s faces,\u201d said Can, adding: \u201cI also take a lot away with me. Sure, football is important, but this here is real life.
