The Black & Yellow schedule for February

The Borussia Dortmund first team will contest four Bundesliga matches in February, plus a UEFA Champions League tie with Sporting for a place in the round of 16. The women's handballers also have a highlight coming up in the EHF European League.

Saturday 1 February (15:30 CET): 1. FC Heidenheim vs. BVB
The first day of the month will see BVB travel to 1. FC Heidenheim. Heidenheim are embroiled in a relegation battle in their second Bundesliga season and currently occupy the relegation play-off place. BVB won the reverse fixture in September 4-2 thanks to goals from Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi (2) and Emre Can. The first meeting at the Schlossberg in Heidenheim came almost exactly a year ago and ended in a 0-0 draw.

Saturday 8 February (15:30 CET): BVB vs. VfB Stuttgart
The Black & Yellows will be looking to turn around their fortunes against VfB Stuttgart when they host the Swabians: the last four meetings with VfB (three in the Bundesliga, one in the DFB-Pokal) have ended in defeat, with a 3-3 draw before that. The last victory against Stuttgart was by a 5-0 scoreline on home turf in October 2022 (goals: Bellingham (2), Süle, Reyna, Moukoko). Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy joined from Stuttgart last summer. The VfB squad contains former Borussia players Dan-Axel Zagadou, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Chris Führich, Pascal Stenzel, Atakan Karazor and Stefan Drljaca.

Tuesday 11 February (21:00 CET): Sporting vs. BVB
BVB need to get the better of Sporting in the play-offs for the Champions League round of 16. Portugal's runaway league leaders came through the league phase with an even record (three wins, two draws and three defeats). A dream start with a 2-0 victory against Lille, a 1-1 draw in Eindhoven, a 2-0 triumph in Graz and then the statement 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City were followed by a 5-1 reverse at the hands of Arsenal, a 2-1 loss in Bruges, a 2-1 defeat in Leipzig and, most recently, a 1-1 draw against Bologna.

Saturday 15 February (15:30 CET): VfL Bochum vs. BVB
The shortest away trip of the Bundesliga season is coming up: it is only around 17 kilometres by car down the A40 from SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on Strobelallee to the Ruhrstadion on Castroper Straße. The last three league meetings in our neighbouring city have all ended 1-1. The most recent victory in Bremen came in the DFB-Pokal round of 16 in February 2023, when the Black & Yellows ran out 2-1 winners. BVB also won the reverse fixture: Borussia came from behind on Matchday 5 to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 4-2 victory thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy (2), Emre Can and Felix Nmecha.

Wednesday 19 February (18:45 CET): BVB vs. Sporting
Borussia will be looking to secure UEFA Champions League progression on home turf. "Sporting are a demanding draw and an exciting challenge. It will be a meeting of equals but with the second leg at home, we'll manage it," said sporting director Sebastian Kehl following the draw. In total, there have been four previous meetings with Sporting – in the group stages in 2016 and 2021. The Black & Yellows won both of the home games by a 1-0 scoreline.

Saturday 22 February (15:00 CET): Women's handballers vs. Sola HK
The match against the Norwegian club Sola promises to be a thriller. In the reverse fixture in the EHF European League, the women's handballers were only narrowly beaten on the road: Henk Groener's team suffered a 32-30 defeat after 60 minutes, having led by four goals at half-time (18-14). The Borussia ladies will be looking to take revenge for that defeat in the return leg – and to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European League in front of more than 10,000 Black & Yellow fans. Tickets for the handball highlight are available via the Online Ticket Shop.

Saturday 22 February (18:30 CET): BVB vs. Union Berlin
Union Berlin will pay a visit to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK at the end of the month. The Köpenick outfit unveiled Steffen Baumgart as their new coach over the winter break. He has managed only one win from his first four Bundesliga matches in the capital (2-1 vs. Mainz), while the other three matches have ended in defeat. The Black & Yellows ran out 4-2 winners the last time that Union came to town in October 2023 (goals: Füllkrug, Schlotterbeck, Brandt, Ryerson).
