Sulewski becomes youth coordinator, Högner is the new BVB women's head coach

Thomas Sulewski, the head coach of Borussia Dortmund's women's first team, will take on new responsibilities at BVB starting next season. His successor has been confirmed: Markus Högner will join the Black & Yellows from SGS Essen on 1 July.

Thomas Sulewski has been coach of the first BVB women's team since 2021 and has played a major role in the first milestones of women's football at our club. The 34-year-old led the team to three promotions, from the Kreisliga A to the Westfalenliga, and also won the Kreispokal three times in a row.

Since 2023, Sulewski has also been the sporting coordinator of the girls' and women's football department. Due to the increasing professionalism and responsibilities of the department, the two roles are no longer compatible. In the summer of 2025, Sulewski will therefore take over the position of BVB women's youth coordinator. Markus Högner will take over as the new head coach from 1 July 2025. The 57-year-old is currently coaching the women's Bundesliga club SGS Essen.

Svenja Schlenker, head of the women's football department at BVB, emphasised: "The season is still full of excitement for both clubs. Both Essen and ourselves have ambitious goals that we want to achieve. It was important for us to announce the change of coach transparently at this stage so that both coaches can continue to work undisturbed and give full commitment to their clubs. Both Thomas Sulewski and Markus Högner will be fully focused on working with their respective teams until the end of the current season."
