Post-Match Report
Facts: Four the magic number as Guirassy and Gross set the benchmark
A win: After two straight defeats in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund won for the first time in the league under Niko Kovac and for the first time at home in a competitive match under his leadership.
Finally: The Black & Yellows ended their negative streak of five Bundesliga home games without a win, and also won their sixth game at home against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.
Match winner: Serhou Guirassy fired eight shots on goal (the most of any player) - and half of them found the back of the net. This was the first time he scored four goals in a Bundesliga match. The last Dortmund player to score four was Erling Haaland, in a 5-2 win away to Hertha BSC on 21 November 2020.
Hat-trick : Between the 75th and 83rd minute, Guirassy scored a flawless hat-trick in eight minutes, something only six players in history have managed to do faster. Among them was former Dortmund player Norbert Dickel (six minutes in September 1988 in a 4-0 win over Hannover).
Served : Guirassy scored two of his four goals from crosses from open play. His total of six goals this season from crosses is the highest in the league.
Assist king: Pascal Gross had provided three assists this season before the match. Now he got four in a single game. The last time a player achieved this in the Bundesliga was Christopher Nkunku for Leipzig in a 5-0 win at Schalke exactly five years ago.
Presence: Marcel Sabitzer won an impressive 91% of his tackles, Nico Schlotterbeck was just behind him, winning 88%. The foundation for the clean sheet was laid by their strength in the challenge. The team as a whole won 60% of their tackles and kept Union under control for long stretches.
Ball security: Emre Can had the best pass success rate of all players on the pitch, with 94% of his passes arriving safely at the feet of teammates.
