BVB women pick up first win of 2025
Borussia got off to a good start and Dana Marquardt opened the scoring in the fifth minute. After a lovely pinpoint pass from Marie Grothe to Ann-Sophie Vogel, Vogel played the ball flat to the far post, where Marquardt was able to slot home to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, it was Marquardt again who was in the right place. Annika Enderle's header from Mia Böger's cross was initially blocked by the Flaesheim goalkeeper. However, the ball fell to Marquardt, who headed in to make it 2-0. In the 15th minute, the hosts managed to close the gap to 2-1 through Sina Kreuz, but Nora Willeke restored the two-goal advantage in the 30th minute. After a short corner from the left, Hannah Geldschläger's cross found Willeke at the far post, who prodded the ball into the net from close range. In the 39th minute, it was Marquardt again who received the ball on the edge of the penalty area. She outmanoeuvred her marker and drilled a powerful shot into the back of the net. Shortly afterwards, Marquardt looked to have scored again with her head but the goal was disallowed due to offside. BVB thus went into the break with a 4-1 lead.
After the break, the BVB women continued to pile on the pressure right from the start. In the 68th minute, hat-trick hero Marquardt set up a second goal for Willeke, who calmly slid the ball past the Flaesheim goalkeeper. A Flaesheim player was shown a second yellow card in the 75th minute after a foul on Dortmund's Vogel, reducing the home side to ten players. Mia Bedarf struck the crossbar later on, but the visitors were unable to score again despite the numerical advantage. The game ended 5-1, meaning BVB remain top of the Westfalenliga table. Coach Thomas Sulewski was satisfied with his team's performance: "Our opponents sat very deep from the start today and wanted to frustrate us with a 5-4-1 set-up, but the team moved the ball well and deservedly took a 2-0 lead very early on. The only slight downer today was, of course, the goal we conceded when we didn't defend well from a corner. In the end, winning 5-1 against such a deep-lying opponent is perfectly acceptable and we're happy with the three points."
The Black & Yellows have a friendly match coming up next weekend. At the Wischlinger Weg sports ground in Dortmund-Marten, the BVB women will host the U23s of Union Berlin on Saturday, 1 March (kick-off 12:00 CET).
