No beer for racists – BVB Fan and Supporter Department enters second round of beer coaster campaign in 2025

Since 6 February 2025, Borussia Dortmund's Fan and Supporter Department has been working with numerous volunteers to distribute its newly designed beer coasters, which contain arguments against discriminatory pub talk that can be accessed online, to bars in Dortmund.

In line with the motto "Kein Bier für Rassisten" (No beer for racists), one million beer coasters were distributed to pubs, bars and restaurants throughout Dortmund back in 2015. The rise of right-wing extremist parties and opinions across politics and society has prompted the department to revive the campaign 10 years later in order to send a strong message to counter racist talk and hate speech.

Guests at pubs in Dortmund are served their drinks together with a clear message: "Kein Bier für Rassisten – Fußball. Bier. Weltoffenheit" (No beer for racists – Football. Beer. Open-mindedness). In addition to the symbolic value of the beer mat, the BVB Fan and Supporter Department also provides substantive arguments against the racist and often generalised kind of pub chat that is unfortunately heard all too often in public. A website presents hard facts to counter blunt statements: a QR code on the cover can be used to directly access well-founded arguments against 19 discriminatory insinuations.

BVB President Dr. Reinhold Lunow commented: "At a time when discriminatory statements are becoming more and more acceptable, we as the BVB family are called upon to take a clear stance against racist talk. I am proud that the Fan and Supporter Department is once again making a strong statement in favour of a colourful and tolerant coexistence – values that unite us as the Borussia family – by relaunching its campaign."

"The results of the recent elections and the associated threat to democracy are of great concern to us as a Fan and Supporter Department. An open and tolerant society serves as the basis for our club life and coexistence. We want to send out a signal that an inhuman world view does not fit in with Borussia Dortmund,” said Tobias Westerfellhaus, who is a member of the Fan Department's board.
