U19s beaten in Westfalenpokal semi-finals

Borussia Dortmund's U19s have been eliminated from the Westfalenpokal by SC Paderborn in the semi-finals. Mike Tullberg's team lost to their lower-league opponents 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in normal time.

In addition, Luca Reggiani, Taycan Etcibasi and Ousmane Diallo sustained injuries that will probably mean they will not be available for the German Championship round of 16 match away to VfL Bochum on Saturday 26 April. "We are unfortunately not competitive with our current squad; we're missing too many players," bemoaned Mike Tullberg, who already had to do without Thierry Tazemeta, Elias Benkara, Jonas Feddersen, Pharell Kegni and Diego Ngambia in Paderborn.

The team gave it their all in Paderborn and created two top goalscoring opportunities that Mathis Albert could not convert. "I cannot make any reproach of the lads following four English weeks in succession. In the end, we had neither the energy nor the quality to win this match." Nick Cherny, Mathis Albert and Samuele Inacio scored in the penalty shootout.

U19s: Lisewski – Rashidi (Inacio, 46), Meiser (Cena, 46), Adamczyk, Reggiani (Blaszczyk, 61) – Kaba, Degener – Etcibasi (Niziolek, 61), Cherny – Albert, Diallo
