BVB to travel to Essen in DFB-Pokal

Borussia Dortmund will play Rot-Weiss Essen away from home in the first round of the 2025/26 DFB-Pokal. The match will be played between 15 and 18 August.

Sprinter Owen Ansah drew the 32 pairings for the first round at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday, handing the Black & Yellows a local derby.

The third-tier club had won the Landespokal for the third time in a row and were therefore in the draw for the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Essen defeated MSV Duisburg in the final. RWE finished eighth in the 3. Liga last season. During the season, the team also faced BVB's U23s on two occasions, winning both games.

The two teams have previously met in the first round of the cup in the 2008/09 and 1982/83 seasons, with the Black & Yellows winning both games 3-1.
