Champions League: Inter, City, Juve, Tottenham, Copenhagen and three firsts

The draw for the league phase of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League took place on Thursday evening. Borussia Dortmund will take on Inter Milan, Manchester City, Villarreal, Juventus, Bodø/Glimt, Tottenham Hotspur, Athletic Bilbao and FC Copenhagen this season.

In the draw, which took place early on Thursday evening in Monaco, BVB were placed in pot 1 alongside defending champions PSG and the eight top teams, and – like last year – were drawn against an interesting mix of high-calibre and, in some cases, historic opponents. BVB will play each of these eight opponents only once, with a total of four home and four away games.

Last season's finalists Inter, Bodø/Glimt from Norway and the two Spanish clubs, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao, will pay a visit to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Meanwhile, BVB will travel to England twice – to face Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur – and visit Juventus and FC Copenhagen.

The advance sale of tickets for the first home game will take place next Tuesday, 2 September. As always, Borussia Dortmund club members can purchase online via the Ticket Shop from 12 noon.

The results will flow into one single table featuring all 36 participating clubs. The teams that occupy one of the top eight places after eight matchdays will qualify directly for the knockout rounds, which commence with the round of 16. For the teams in the bottom 12 places (25 to 36), the European season will finish at the end of January. The teams ranked ninth to 24th will compete in the “round of 16 play-offs” to determine the eight additional participants in the last 16. Teams that are directly next to each other in the table will be paired together. A draw will then be held to determine whether the ninth-ranked team will face the club in 23rd or 24th place (this will then determine the opponent for the club in 10th position).

Borussia Dortmund were – like each of the 36 participants – drawn against two opponents from each of the four pots. The pots only served to ensure that all participants have a balanced set of fixtures. UEFA plans to announce the fixture schedule on Saturday.
