BVB player nominated for Ballon d‘Or
Guirassy scored 34 goals and set up a further nine in 45 appearances in his debut season in Black & Yellow. The Borussia player finished last season as the top goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League: the 29-year-old found the net 13 times and provided an additional five assists in 14 matches in the top club competition. That puts him joint-top of the scoring charts with Raphinha of FC Barcelona, who was also on target 13 times. Guirassy scored four goals in five games at the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer.
The last time a Black & Yellow name was among the nominees was in 2022: BVB striker Sébastian Haller finished the vote in 13th place three years ago. Former Borussia player Jude Bellingham finished in fourth spot in the ranking of the best U21 players that same year. Only one Dortmund player has previously won the coveted award: Matthias Sammer beat off competition from Brazilian Ronaldo and Englishman Alan Shearer to win the 1996 Ballon d'Or.
The 69th Ballon d'Or will be awarded at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on 22 September. Since 1956, the Ballon d'Or has honoured exceptional performances and unique talent on the pitch. Since 2024, the gala has been jointly organised by UEFA and Groupe Amaury, publisher of France Football and L’Équipe.
