A football fest with six goals and no winner – facts on the 3-3 draw in Frankfurt

It was a promising start to the 2026 football year, with plenty of chances at both ends and a total of six goals. Frankfurt had 1.8 xGoals, while Dortmund had 2.4 expected goals – a win for the Black & Yellows would have been deserved. Here's an overview of the facts.

Draws galore: Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten in nine Bundesliga matches, but have shared the points in four of those games. No other team have drawn as many games as BVB (six) this season.

Substitute goal: Carney Chukwuemeka scored his first Bundesliga goal as a substitute. The Englishman has now scored two goals this season, one more than he managed in the entire previous campaign.

From the wing: Julian Ryerson delivered six crosses, the most of any player and almost half of Dortmund’s 13 crosses. For the third time this season, a cross from the Norwegian led to a goal: only Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling has done so more often (four times). Borussia Dortmund scored from a cross for the eighth time this season – the most in the league.

Away goal: Felix Nmecha scored his first Bundesliga goal in an away game, having previously scored nine times in home games.

It’s working: The new year began as the old one ended: Maximilian Beier scored the last BVB goal of 2025 to make it 2-0 against Mönchengladbach, and now the first of 2026. It was his fifth goal of the season; no Dortmund player has scored more this season. (br)
