Pre-Match Report

Facts on the clash with Tottenham

Borussia Dortmund will face Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 7 of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. Here are the facts about Tuesday's match in London (kick-off 21:00 CET, live on Prime).

The scenario: With equal points and goals, the teams occupy tenth and 11th place (BVB is tenth due to having scored more goals). Both have won three times and both have only suffered one defeat. BVB lost at Manchester City, Spurs lost in Paris (5-3). Incidentally, both teams drew 2-2 against Bodö/Glimt (Norway), unexpectedly dropping points.

Head-to-head record: The two clubs have met six times so far. BVB won the first two encounters – in the spring of 2016 in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League (3-0 H, 2-1 A), while the following four matches – all in the UEFA Champions League – went to Spurs (3-1 A, 2-1 H, 3-0 A, 1-0 H).

Tottenham facts: Although Spurs are only in 14th place in the Premier League after 22 matchdays, they are only eight points behind fifth place, which could qualify them for the UEFA Champions League. Spurs have lost only one of their last 13 games in European competitions (eight wins, four draws) and are unbeaten in 23 home games in European club competitions (19 wins, four draws). In the current Champions League season, they have won their three home games without conceding a goal (1-0 against Villarreal, 4-0 against Copenhagen, 3-0 against Slavia Prague). Tottenham are unbeaten in five games against German teams (three wins, two draws) and prevailed against Eintracht Frankfurt in last year's Europa League quarter-finals (1-1 H, 1-0 A).

Borussia facts: Borussia Dortmund lost 4-1 to Manchester City on Matchday 4 of the current UEFA Champions League, but the Black & Yellows have won three of their last five games against Premier League clubs. However, of their 19 away games in England, they have won only five (most recently in Newcastle in 2023) and lost 13. There has also been one draw. BVB have 99 wins in the European Cup and UEFA Champions League. With 19 goals scored, BVB and defending champions Paris St. Germain have the best attack in the current competition.

Europe's elite: Borussia Dortmund are participating in the UEFA Champions League for the 20th time – the tenth time in a row – and have reached the knockout stages in ten of their last 11 appearances, reaching the final three times (1997, 2013, 2024). Tottenham Hotspur are participating for the seventh time, the sixth time in the last ten seasons. The club did not qualify via the league last season, but as winners of the UEFA Europa League. In 2018/19, Spurs reached the final of Europe's most prestigious club competition, losing 2-0 to Liverpool.
